The effects of the Nordic hamstring exercise on sprint performance and eccentric knee flexor strength: A systematic review and meta-analysis of inter…
2021
Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) on sprint performance (i.e., 5, 10 and 20 m) and explore associations between study characteristics and sprint outcomes in team sport players. Secondary aims were to (1) investigate the effects of the NHE on eccentric strength of the knee flexors (ESKF) with categorical subgroup analysis to determine differences between recreationally, well-trained individuals and young athletes, (2) determine the relation between ESKF and sprint performance in team sport players, and (3) explore the effect of study characteristics (i.e., weekly volume, time duration and body mass) on ESKF.Methods…
Psychometric Evaluation of the Norwegian Versions of the Modified Group Environment Questionnaire and the Youth Sport Environment Questionnaire
2021
This study aimed to translate the modified Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ) and the Youth Sport Environment Questionnaire (YSEQ) into Norwegian, examine the factor structure and reliability of the scales through independent clusters model confirmatory factor analysis (ICM-CFA) and exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM), and examine differential item functioning (DIF) as a function of sex. Three-hundred-and-thirty-three athletes (M(SD)age = 18.7(2.60) years; 33% females) completed the GEQ. Three-hundred-and-three athletes (M(SD)age = 15.0(1.48) years; 26% females) completed the YSEQ. Results indicated acceptable fit indices for a four-factor, a second-order two-factor (task a…
Sports, Executive Functions and Academic Performance: A Comparison between Martial Arts, Team Sports, and Sedentary Children
2021
It is well known that curricular physical activity benefits children’s executive functions and academic performance. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether there is an influence of extracurricular sports on executive functions and academic performance. However, it is less known which specific types of the sport better enhance executive functions in children
En kvinnelig toppidrettsutøvers refleksjoner over egen karriere : håndtering av med- og motgang i idrettskarrieren belyst gjennom forståelse av hvord…

Masteroppgave i idrettsvitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Title A Top Female Athlete's Reflection on her Career - Dealing with adversity in a sports career illustrated through the understanding of how motivation and coping skills can help to overcome career obstacles. Project Background Many athletes, especially women, feel they lose the motivation for playing sports early on in their careers. There is a need for more knowledge regarding coping capabilities in the face of decreasing motivation to continue a sports career. Purpose and problem There is a need to understand how women who have experienced hardship but still chose to continue with their sport, think about coping mechanisms w…
Want to Impact Physical, Technical, and Tactical Performance during Basketball Small-Sided Games in Youth Athletes? Try Differential Learning Beforeh…
2020
This study aimed to analyze the acute effect of small-sided games, based on differential learning, on the physical, technical, and positioning performance of young basketball players. Eight basketball players under 13 (U13) participated in this study. A total of eight sessions involving half-court small-sided games (4 sets ×
Acute injuries in Finnish junior floorball league players
2018
Abstract Objectives To investigate the incidence and characteristics of acute time-loss injuries in Finnish junior floorball league players. Design Prospective cohort study with 3-year follow-up. Methods One hundred and eighty-six female and male players (mean age 16.6 ± 1.4) took part in the follow-up study (2011–2014). The training hours and games were recorded on a team diary. Floorball related acute injuries were registered and verified by a research physician. The injury incidence was expressed as the number of injuries per 1000 h of exposure. Incidence rate was calculated separately for games and practices, and for males and females. Results One hundred and forty-four acute time-loss …
Application of beetroot's nitrates juice in team sports
2023
News. - Beet juice has recently become the focus of interest of many research entities. This is due to its positive effects on many aspects of exercise in various sports disciplines. Supplementation with nitrate-rich beet juice can both reduce muscle soreness and accelerate the recovery process, reduce the aerobic cost of exercise, and improve the physical performance of athletes. Nitrate supplementation increases plasma nitrite concentrations and lowers resting blood pressure. Furthermore, nitrate supplementation also lowers the aerobic cost during submaximal exercise and may, under certain circumstances, increase exercise tolerance and performance. This is due to the increased bioavailabi…
Incidence and risk factors for back pain in young floorball and basketball players : A prospective study
2018
The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of back pain in young basketball and floorball players under 21 years of age. The secondary aim was to examine risk factors especially for low back pain (LBP). Nine basketball and nine floorball teams (n = 396) participated in this prospective follow‐up study (2011‐2014). Young athletes (mean age 15.8 ± 1.9) performed physical tests and completed a questionnaire at baseline. The follow‐up lasted 1‐3 years per player. During the follow‐up, back pain reported by the players was registered on a weekly basis and verified by a study physician. The exposure time (AE) on team practices and games was recorded by the coach. Altogether back pain …
Prevention of injuries among youth team sports : the role of decreased movement control as a risk factor
2017
Good movement control is essential in team sports that require fast-paced running, pivoting, jumping and landing. Alterations in dynamic neuromuscular control may cause significant stress on the musculoskeletal system, and increase the risk of both acute and overuse injuries. The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the effectiveness of interventions to prevent sports injuries, the incidence and severity of overuse injuries, and the role of decreased movement control as a risk factor for future injuries in young team sports athletes. The study methods included a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, a retrospective epidemiological investi…
Knee Control and Jump-Landing Technique in Young Basketball and Floorball Players
2015
Poor knee alignment is associated with increased loading of the joints, ligaments and tendons, and may increase the risk of injury. The study purpose was to compare differences in knee kinematics between basketball and floorball players during a vertical drop jump (VDJ) task. We wanted to investigate whether basketball players, whose sport includes frequent jump-landings, exhibited better knee control compared with floorball players, whose sport involves less jumping. Complete data was obtained from 173 basketball and 141 floorball players. Peak knee valgus and flexion angles during the VDJ were analyzed by 3D motion analysis.Larger knee valgus angles were observed among basketball players …
